When people heard her sing she was often mistaken for a black female or even a black male because of her deep voice and soul style of singing. She picked up the soul style from black friends and neighbors where she lived. She was born to Italian parents and sang in their Italian Restaurant located in Chicago. Her parents changed the family name from Auro to Yuro, I don’t know why. She eventually began to sing in night clubs and recorded several hit songs including “Hurt” which was very popular. When Frank Sinatra heard her sing he took her on his singing tour to Australia. I believe she died of throat cancer in 2004.
