Baldo. He told me he and his brother used to eat these sweet figs when they were kids. I guess there were many fig trees in that area. He also loved peaches we would stop a farmer’s market just to get them. Maybe they were also growing in Italy? He attributed the figs for getting false teeth at an early age!!!

Well done Tony! Fruits from your own orchard are the best! They test so much better, I envy you.

I came across this because I just bought a piece of land in Avola that has more than 120 fruit/nut trees, plus grapes and 40 fichi d’India cacti and am trying to learn as much as possible. It was a family lot, so not commercial and it shows in the wide assortment of trees that should bear fruit throughout the year. I have lemons, oranges, apricot, pear, peach, cherry, cacci, gelsi, apple, fig, pomegranate, and a few other unknown fruit trees, and walnut, hazelnut, carob, and almond trees. Looking forward to learning…and especially eating! P.S. did I mention 50 of the trees are olive trees!!!!! Mmmmmmm

We were recently in Italy and Sicily (Sept. and Oct.) and loved eating the very small fresh pears at breakfast. They were a greenish colour nicely firm but beautifully sweet. What is the name of this variety please? I did ask a man in Agrigento but could not understand his reply
